Today is all about the plank!

The plank is AMAZING because it strengthens your core muscles. A strong core will pull in your waist and tummy, making you look lovely and toned. Plus, it provides support around your lower spine…so if you’ve ever suffered from a bad back, this is the one for you.

The right position is really important. If you are strong enough, go on your toes but make sure you elbows are directly under your shoulders. Your bottom needs to be tucked under as you pull your belly button up towards your spine. If you haven’t done the plank before, start off lying on your tummy on the floor. Position your elbows under your shoulders and pull your tummy and upper thighs up off the floor a couple of inches. You should immediately feel it in your tummy muscles. Perfect! (See video below if you need a bit more help!)

One thing to focus on and how many you do is up to you so there is absolutely no excuse not to do today’s challenge!

All you need to do:

Hold the plank for 20 seconds

Rest for 10 seconds

Repeat as many times as you can until you feel like your core is too tired to hold you in position properly! If you are already exercising regularly, aim for 8 rounds. If you are a bit of a beginner, go for 6 and if you are a complete newbie, aim for 4!

Make a note of how many times you manage to do it as we will be repeating this one before Christmas.
